The Department of Philology at the University of Patras is firmly committed to the internationalisation of higher education and actively encourages its students to participate in the Erasmus+ programme. Our aim is to enable an ever-growing number of members of our academic community to gain international experience, engage with different educational systems, and broaden their academic, linguistic, and cultural horizons.
Through an extensive network of 48 inter-institutional agreements, students of the Department have the opportunity to complete part of their studies at partner universities abroad, with full academic recognition of the courses they successfully undertake. At the same time, the Department welcomes students from across Europe, who participate in its courses and everyday academic life, making a substantial contribution to the enrichment of our intellectual and cultural environment.
Our partnerships encompass a particularly broad range of academic fields, including Classical Philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, Literary Studies, Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Language Acquisition, Translation Studies, and Cultural Studies.
The Department collaborates with a wide range of leading European universities. It has a particularly strong network of partnerships in Germany, including the University of Hamburg, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and the University of Potsdam; in Italy, with the universities of Bologna, Padua, Pisa, Rome, Turin, and Siena; and in France, with Lumière University Lyon 2. Our partner institutions also include the University of Salamanca, Masaryk University, Eötvös Loránd University, and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The network extends further to universities in Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, and many other European countries, covering a wide spectrum of philological, linguistic, translation-related, and cultural disciplines.
Erasmus+ is not limited to periods of study abroad. Depending on the provisions of each individual agreement, mobility opportunities may be available for study, traineeships, teaching, and staff training, both from the Department to its partner institutions and from those institutions to the University of Patras. The mobility of students, academic staff, and administrative personnel facilitates the exchange of knowledge and good practices, fosters new scholarly collaborations, and situates education in philology within a dynamic, multilingual, and international environment.
For the Department of Philology, mobility is an integral part of the university experience. We want our students to travel, study, collaborate, and develop academically and personally abroad, while also ensuring that our Department remains an open and welcoming destination for students, teaching staff, and researchers from across Europe.
Through Erasmus+, philology becomes a journey of knowledge, encounter, and creative exchange.
