The Department of Philology at the University of Patras is a modern and outward-looking academic environment, where the long tradition of philological studies meets new scientific approaches, interdisciplinarity, and technological innovation.

Undergraduate studies are organized into three specializations: Classical Studies, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, and Linguistics. Through these, students study language, literature, and culture from antiquity to the modern era, developing critical thinking, research skills, and the ability to analyze, synthesize, and clearly articulate well-documented academic discourse.

The educational experience is closely linked to contemporary research. The four Postgraduate Study Programs offer multiple paths of specialization, while the Department’s four research laboratories bring students into contact with primary material, manuscripts, archives, linguistic data, digital infrastructures, and international scientific networks.

Outward-lookingness is a core element of our identity. Through 48 inter-institutional agreements Erasmus+, significant opportunities for mobility, academic exchanges, and international experiences are offered. At the same time, the Department welcomes students, faculty, and researchers from abroad, fostering an open and multilingual academic environment.

The connection between studies and professional experience is enhanced through paid Internships, which enable graduates to collaborate with museums, schools, research centers, publishing houses, cultural organizations, media, and linguistic and digital service providers.
