— Admission Requirements
Applicants to the doctoral programme of the Department of Philology must hold a Master’s degree awarded by a Greek Higher Education Institution or by a recognised equivalent institution abroad.
As a general rule, the applicant’s Master’s degree must be in the same or a related field of specialisation as the area in which they wish to pursue doctoral studies. In exceptional cases, subject to a decision by the Department Assembly, applicants holding a Master’s degree in a different field may also be admitted.
— Επιλογή υποψηφίων διδακτόρων (και για τις 3 ειδικεύσεις)
Τα ελάχιστα τυπικά προσόντα των υποψηφίων φοιτητών/ριών των διδακτορικών προγραμμάτων είναι τα εξής:
α) Πτυχίο Α.Ε.Ι. (Πανεπιστημίου ή Τ.Ε.Ι.) της ημεδαπής ή αναγνωρισμένου ως ισοτίμου ιδρύματος της αλλοδαπής.
β) Μεταπτυχιακό Δίπλωμα Ειδίκευσης (Μ.Δ.Ε.) Α.Ε.Ι. της ημεδαπής ή αναγνωρισμένου από το Δ.Ο.Α.Τ.Α.Π. ως ισότιμου ιδρύματος της αλλοδαπής, ή κατοχή ενιαίου και αδιάσπαστου τίτλου σπουδών μεταπτυχιακού επιπέδου, σύμφωνα με το άρθρο 46 του Ν. 4485/2017.
Η Συνέλευση του Τμήματος μπορεί να προσθέσει και άλλα κριτήρια επιλογής, όπως εξετάσεις, ερευνητικό έργο, προϋπηρεσία, συνέντευξη, κ.λπ.
— Selection of PhD Candidates (for all three specialisations)
The minimum formal qualifications required of applicants to the doctoral programmes are as follows:
- a) A degree from a Greek Higher Education Institution (University or former TEI) or from a recognised equivalent institution abroad.
- b) A Master’s degree awarded by a Greek Higher Education Institution or by an institution abroad recognised as equivalent by DOATAP, or an integrated Master’s degree, in accordance with Article 46 of Law 4485/2017.
The Department Assembly may establish additional selection criteria, such as examinations, research experience and publications, professional experience, an interview, or other relevant qualifications.

In addition to the documents listed above, international applicants are required to provide an official certificate of proficiency in Greek. This requirement also applies to scholarship holders.

Applicants must submit an online application as well as a printed application form, together with the supporting documents specified in the form.
After completing the online application, applicants must send the application form and all supporting documents submitted with it to the Department Secretariat at philsec@upatras.gr.
