Call for Applications for the Postgraduate Programme

“Language Sciences”

The Department of Philology of the University of Patras announces the opening of the selection procedure for up to twenty (20) postgraduate students for admission to the Postgraduate Programme entitled “Language Sciences” (Government Gazette 4683/Issue B/29.7.2026).

The Programme accepts graduates of all Departments within Faculties of Philosophy, as well as graduates of related Departments in other Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, including, for example, graduates of foreign-language Departments at Greek Higher Education Institutions and of the Department of Mediterranean Studies (Archaeology, Linguistics, International Relations) at the University of the Aegean. It also accepts graduates of Departments at Greek Higher Education Institutions and recognised equivalent institutions abroad, as well as graduates of former Technological Educational Institutes (ATEI), where the subject area may be considered relevant to Linguistics in the broadest sense, in accordance with the applicable legislation.

Graduates of other Departments may also be admitted, provided that, in the judgement of the Candidate Evaluation Committee, they possess the necessary background and qualifications for successful participation in the Programme.

Final-year students of the above Departments may apply, provided that they submit a Certificate of Completion of Studies no later than the date on which the Department Assembly meets to approve the final list of successful applicants. In such cases, a copy of the degree or diploma must be submitted as soon as it becomes available and, in any event, before the Programme begins. All postgraduate students admitted to the Programme must submit the required supporting documents by the registration deadline.

Final-year students of foreign institutions that have not yet been included in the DOATAP National Registry of Recognised Foreign Higher Education Institutions may also apply. In such cases, applicants must submit a formal declaration confirming that they hold the relevant degree. Selected applicants must subsequently provide documentary evidence that they have taken the necessary steps for both their qualification and the awarding institution to be included in the DOATAP National Registry of Recognised Foreign Higher Education Institutions by the time they complete the Programme. Failure to meet this requirement will result in removal from the Programme, and no certificate of study will be issued.

The minimum duration of study required for the award of the Master’s degree is three (3) academic semesters, including the period devoted to the preparation of the Master’s thesis.
